Default Re: Early 80's ezgo cart 2cycle help

This extract from the PG history seems to suggest 1981 although the wording is somewhat vague.

-In 1980, an external, Hitachi brand starter generator was introduced and the engine was modified. The crank bearings, drive clutch, point set & condenser, voltage regulator and the engine frame all changed.

-1981 ushered in an electronic ignition system, which did away with the golf carts point set & condenser altogether, and the point activator lobe on the crankshaft soon went away too. Except for the addition of an oil injection system, this engine went virually unchanged until 1989 when the 3pg golf cart engine replaced it. Although the two engines are similar, many parts are very different.

-1983 was the oddball year for the 2pg engine. The muffler was placed behind the engine and it layed down instead of standing up. The '83 golf cart had a different engine frame, muffler & exhaust stack. It only lasted one year though...lots of problems.

I just wanted to add that the 1-1/2oz has been discussed and supported by others here and elsewhere.I have run mine this way over 2yrs since i built it.No smoke at all,but i also run an open-element air-filter instead of the stock air-box so this will lean things out a little too.By flat-out i'm talking wide-open 23mph down 1/4 mile trails, let off a bit on turns then back open another 1/4 mile, all the way around the perimeter of our 200 acre farm(we have a trail around the entire perimeter). If you want to see a place to really exercise a cart,we have it,Trails,Creeks,Mud,Jumps,Etc...She goin into season 3 and still goin strong!26yr. old cart and love it!

Pachanga, that sounds like a lot of fun. I would love to join you but Hamlin is just a little too far north for me. Still the prospect of racing my 25 year old cart is captivating.
