Winch Size Needed?
I have a 2008.5 lifted Club car precedent. What size winch should I consider?
Am I correct in that the cart weighs about 1000 lbs? Thanks Thomas |

Re: Winch Size Needed?
The general rule of thumb is 1.5 times your GVW. In my experience though this is way underrated. For instance a common cause for winching is mud. Mud however has an incredible suction force on a stuck vehicle. Steep hills, terrain obstacles, flat tires etc all put a lot more strain on a winch. Buy as much as you can reasonably afford. I think 2500-3000 #'s is a good starting point.

Re: Winch Size Needed?
I picked up a 2000 lb winch at Harbor Freight today for $40. It does not require any permanent wiring and it has a plate that allows you to slip it over a trailer ball. I figure for $40 plus tax I can burn it up without a lot of money lost.
I can use it on the front or the rear so I like that option as well. I wish they made a 3000 lb unit, but for the options on this winch I hope it will be good enough. What is your opinion on spending probably $100 more to get the options that this one has? I also wanted to wire an inline fuse to protect my cart and the winch. What size fuse do you think I should use? Thanks, Thomas |

Re: Winch Size Needed?
I have 3000 for mine, If the HF winch quits , save the mounts and put a bigger one on them. Theres a seller on ebay that sells those winchs by the box full as returns.Be real carful not to put yourself in a way as you will REALLY need that winch.

Re: Winch Size Needed?
FYI = I bought the HF 3000# winch for my single cart trailer and it is a real disappointment. I am using it to pull dead carts up a trailer ramp and it is going into (some kind of) thermal shut down. Get something better, bigger

Re: Winch Size Needed?
Scotty, does your winch have the wireless remote? The ones with the remote have an interrupt in them. I don't know about the tethered types. Anyway it sounds like they are shutting down but they are shutting off and on to keep from over heating. But the tethered ones I have burnt plum up ! But we have burnt up Warns also.
