upgraded my Ds but still slow!! what is the deal?
ok mates,
heres the deal. ive got a 1999 club car DS. Its got 14" wheels and 22" offroad tires. 6" jake lift. new trojan t875 batteries. it was too slow so i upgraded the wiring to 4 gauge, installed a new plumb quick motor, and installed a 400 amp alltrax NPX controller. here were the results Before mods: (stock motor, 225amp controller 6 gauge wires) foward: 11 mph reverse: 5-7 mph uphill: 5-7 mph downhill: 25-28mph After mods: forward: 13 mph uphill: 8.5 downhill: approx. 25 I was hoping for much better performance increase but was I being too optimistic and do these look correct? the pedal travels about 1" before i hear a click and the pedal travels approx 2 inches or so before any movement. The pedal is approximatlley 2.5 inches from floor before movement. Any suggestions? would getting a programmable controller help much? do you think there is something wrong somewhere? thanks again guys! |

Re: upgraded my Ds but still slow!! what is the deal?
did you upgrade all cables or just battery cables? if so thats part of it ( you must change all cables )......what speed system does it have? if a V-glide that could be part of it and if your getting 2 1/2 inches before cart moves thats part of it..........i took my V- glide out and put a PB-6 pot in and my cart moves with less than 1/8 inch of pedal............................................. .....

Re: upgraded my Ds but still slow!! what is the deal?
The NPX controller is incorrect for this application it is strictly for STOCK carts. Applications like this is why they have discontinued the NPX line. The NPX out put is less than the same rated AXE which is what you should have used.
It looks like your biggest gain was in torque, uphill speed. This I would expect. Judging from your results I would guess your PQ motor is the bandit = a gain of about 2 mph and your increased tire size should have gained you about that much again so I would have expected about a 4-5 mph gain with the AXE control. You can test your throttle signal out put and see if you are in fact, getting to full throttle? Hope this helps |

Re: upgraded my Ds but still slow!! what is the deal?
ok thanks guys.
shadow: yes all the cables were switched over to 4ga. It has a pie shaped compartment in the battery box, does this indicate that I have v-glide? If so is it very troublesome to switch over like you did? And it oonly travels about 2 " before movement, leaving 2.5" from floor. not sure if that makes a difference. Scotty, I already ahd the larger tires before i added the heavy wires/motor/comtroller. so should i have been only expecting the 2mph overall increase thnks to the bandit? what would i benifit form right now by switching to the AXE from the NPX? thanks guys! |

Re: upgraded my Ds but still slow!! what is the deal?
thats part of the speed problem yes you have the V-glide......the 4 gage cables do nothing because when currant gets back to a 6 gage cable its a bottleneck so theres no gain other than heat and thats not good......and if the pedal has 2 inches of travel before cart moves than theres room for improvement there also but i would get rid of the V-glide and put a pot in you,ll eliminate 2 birds with 1 stone and be happier.......................

ok so youre saying the vglide system is both bottlenecking my electrical flow and not allowing for as much throttle? how do i replace the system and what kind of cost and time am i looking at? thanks shadowman!
(whats a pot? lol) |

ok pb-6 great thanks. Is there a how to guide that you know of anywhere? preferably with pics lol!
This is my v glide that I am replacing right? I noticed it looks like it has a hole worn/possibly burned through on the left side, or is it supposed to be like that? |
