My '84 has a piece of fuel line that loops up over the carb and clips into a holder on the other side of the carb from that fitting, so that it makes an upside down U. If I pull the hose off that fitting it's a little damp, so I'm guessing that the upward loop will keep enough pressure there that the gas won't keep running out.
