Default EZGO Steering

I have three ezgo carts and all seem to have a lot of play in the steering. I've taken apart the steering box on one of them and everything seems to be ok with the gears and has grease, etc. Does anybody know why/what's causing the steering wheel to be able to turn 4-5 inches each way and not turn the wheels?

Thanks,

Kevin

Have someone slowly turn the wheel and you watch the steering parts for looseness. With 4-5 inches the problem should be obvious.

On mine it was pretty much all the steering components had some play. Ball joints, wheel bearings, spindles, steering rack, etc. Especially the steering rack. It tends to get worn in the middle and a little wear on the teeth results in lots of play.

Hmm i see..when i took the steering wheel and shaft off and turned it from the joint right by the assembly it seemed pretty tight..so i didn't see anything "obvious" because it feels normal when u turn it from the joint..

If you turn it all the way to one lock, back off one turn and check for side to side again. If it is tight now, your steering rack is worn in the center section.

I agree with RobCons, its a little of everything. I just rebuilt my RXV front end and everything was worn but the Pass.side tie rod/ball joint was really screwed up.
