Default My Battery Exploded!

My 08 Precident had been sitting a month and my wife jumped on it and tried to take her for a spin. Well, she didn't get far! I had to tow it home. Yes, I flipped the tow/run switch. Water was down to the top of the plates so I added a little distilled to just cover the plates. Put it on the Power Drive 2 charger. It charged for about 10 mins and as I was in the house I heard a loud explosion outside! I knew right away it was a battery. These are about 1 1/2 year old US Batteries. All the connections are clean and tight. Must have been something inside the battery??? Don't know if I should just replace the battery? Cables? Not really sure? I hope my OBC and controller are okay. What are y'alls thoughts?

Could be a bad cell in the battery. Full of hydrogen and a spark are bad things..

Was there a fire with this explosion? Or did the battery pop like a balloon with no fire?

My guess is that the gases from electrolysis built up too much pressure and bam! The vent holes may have been blocked.

If you are still thinking about replacing one bad battery (even though the pack is 3 years old) - the only way to keep the old ones from killing a new battery - is THIS interesting device invented/created by Sergio. Read his outline closely and decide if you want to try it. Three years is pushing it - but that will certainly give his passive battery device a tough test!
