Marathon Brakes... Good enough?
I'm nearly done getting this cart ready for the trails and haven't done much to the brakes, yet. I've had the drums off and the shoe linings look fairly thick. I cleaned inside with brake cleaner and that's about it. They are far from being able to lock em up. Shoes may be glazed a bit and the cables could be a little tighter. Question is... do they stop a cart good when everything is top shape? I don't want to spend time and money on these if they still won't cut it. I''l do the disc brake kit if I need to.

Jack up the rear, turn the adjuster in until you cant rotate the wheel and back it off 1-2 clicks. Adjust the cables so there is 1/8" slack and make sure the park brake will still engage. Be sure your cables move freely in the sheath, that is probably the place to start. Disc would definitely stop better but lets face it, these aren't rocket ships.

Are you on stock tires or oversize? My txt on 23" tires is lacking in the stopping department. Yes it will stop but it's far from being able to lock them up so you have to plan ahead where you want to stop. I will be getting a disc conversion soon.

Re: Marathon Brakes... Good enough?
After cleaning again and adjusting everything carefully... it's a bit better, but I have a warped drum and uneven shoe wear and can't see spending $150 on drums and shoes when a disc kit is $320 or so. PK2011
