Field Map Question
First post and a newbie question. But here goes. By the way this forum has been a great source of information for me as a lurker.
This came up for me when I installed an Alltrax controller. Can someone explain what a field map is? I know it's a file that the software pulls in. But what is it exactly and how is it different that the adjustable options that are in the software? Thanks. |

Re: Field Map Question
A field map is specific data utilized for controlling the field and functions in a sepex motor. They only work on sepex motors and are controlled with the controller dynamics. They are all for manufacturer specific motor types to get the best performance out of them. They are tuned for torque or speed or balance to yield the best performance for desired results. Most every HP motor is a little different in its design and performance, so the field maps help you maximize their potential.

Re: Field Map Question
Was a bit curious about this as well, so I did some reading... woah!
Basically the field map sets the minimum and maximum limits for current in the field windings of the motor. These have t be matched to the motor design, because going too high or too low on certain designs leads to very low efficiency (or high inefficiency) and large amounts of heat production in the field and/or armature windings. Too much heat = burned out motor. The field mapping is Not altered with any of the settings in the toolkit software. The adjustments you are allowed to make only make changes within the range that is pre-set by the field map. |
