Club car 48V - 12V ground to frame
Carryall 2 2005 48V
Installing some lights on my club car and had a bad ground on frame (~7-8 V). So i just connected ground cable from rear light to frame and then everything works(12v in frame). Now i have read that this could be an bad idea. But i dont understand it. My question is - Why? Why cant i have 12V grounded to the chassis? Greetings from Sweden 👍 |

to BGW
The golden rule for electric carts is NEVER connect any wire to the frame. The reasoning behind it is that sensitive electronics can get fried, such as the motor, controller, and/or solenoid. |

And a lot of the accessories you add are 12v and the cart is 48v so you do not want stray current running thru that frame.
All grounds (Negatives) should be made at the B- or connection coming off of it. |

Alright, iŽll have to change that then.
But i had 8-9V already before i connected my new ground. Any ideas where i should start search for this bad ground and where it is coming from? Any common places? |

Re: Club car 48V - 12V ground to frame
Ignore the "bad ground".
Every electric vehicle I've ever touched has had traces of voltage leaking into the chassis from the batteries. Electric forklifts are notoriously bad for this. (my day job) Sometimes it's just a few volts, sometimes it's enough to screw with the electronics, throw codes and disable the unit. Touch your meter probes to the plastic case on the battery and you may still find voltage. This is another reason to keep the batteries super clean and dry. As the previous guys said... all your wires should be isolated and not connected to the chassis. |

I had a mis wired switch when connected let nothing 12v run and gave me 8v. Fixed and now everything works.
