Default 1987 club car ds steering wheel adapter

Hello-

The old steering wheel mounted directly to the column, and went pretty far down the shaft.

This new steering wheel adapter I got doesn't go quite down as far. Which means there isn't a lot of thread holding the nut in place, and it makes all sorts of rattling noises when driving on rocky roads and the like.

This is the adapter I bought:

Here is a picture of what I believe the problem to be:

The problem is that layer with the CC stamped on it only allows the adapter to go so far down the steering column. It's enough to get into the spines, but it's not enough to really crank the nut down.

Is there a different adapter that might suit me better? Any other tips / advice?

Thanks.

Thanks. I thought I hammered it down pretty good. I remember at the time thinking that would be as far as it would go down the column due to the "inner donut" contacting the column and felt like that was as deep as I can go.

Are there any adapters that don't have that "inner donut" (the layer with the CC stamped on it) that maybe will allow the adapter to more easily travel down the column?

I'm still messing around with this with no luck.

I was looking here:

https://golfcartpartsdirect.com/Category/34

I seem to remember some soft of "cushion" or rubber washer that was in between the steering wheel and the steering column. It was trashed so I tossed it. But maybe I need that part in between the steering column and the steering wheel adapter I bought.

Anyone happen to know what I'm talking about and which part that is?

Thanks.

Here is the piece. But, I might just rebuild the whole steering column for $30 or whatever the cost is. But, I wonder if the lack of this piece is causing my rattling.
