Noob alert did I fry/ melt my battery terminal?
Yep u guessed it noob here. Put brand new batteries in my used club car two weeks ago only to find this today. The nut was so loose I took it off with my hand and the battery cable was better looking two weeks ago I could have sworn but maybe not. So dumb question do I need to replace the battery or can it be fixed somehow. Also plan on replacing all of the suspect cables now as I didn’t know this could happen. Any other advice for this noob would be greatly appreciated.

That is just arc damage. If the bolt is still tight and the lead is good, use a flat file and carefully resurface it. I have done that many times. The main thing is to get your surface area back flat so there is a good contact pad for the lug to be secured on.

And you need a whole new set of Golf Cart battery cables. Those auto store cables are made for cars. Not for golf carts

That looks like the stud is pulled out. You can either use an adapter on the A terminal (the one like car terminal) or drill and tap the terminal for a 5/16 stud to thread in.
Also agree that those cables should be replaced. Those could have poor connections that may not handle the current load required by a golf cart. At the very least the one that burned needs to be replaced because that cable is damaged between the end terminal and he copper cable now. Bad connections in those will cause resistance and heat buildup in the cable ends and you'll just keep chasing your tail trying to fix burned terminals and cables. |
