Alltrax DCX500IQ and a performance motor

Hey All,

Anybody running a Alltrax DCX500IQ paired with a performance motor? ('07 Precedent) I have questions:
What wires are you using?
What problems did you encounter?
What did you gain?

I'm looking for more torque without hassles!

Yes, I recently purchased e refurbed 2007 Precedent (lift kit, tires, lights, rear seat) and also had the controller, solenoid, cables and motor upgraded. I am going to use this to get around a hunting lease that is pretty hilly, so needed the torque. I got the DCX500, 400A soleniod and D&D 12HP (peak) torque and speed motor. They were going to put the 7HP (non-peak) GE motor but was not able to get it and substituted the D&D. I think they are very similar performance - but not sure. From some of the other postings, it would appear the GE would have been a better choice - but too late now. In any case, per your inquiry, the primary thing I found is that you will need to install 4 gauge wires (some may say 2 gauge) and you cannot buy all the 4G cables you will need for this cart. All the websites that sell 4G cables only sell the 3 cables that connect the batteries together. I was not able to find the other 5 cables needed that go from batt-sol-contr-motor-contr-batt. I suspect the reason being the last cable from contr to batt has to go thru the on-board computer (OBC - note this acronym - you will see it alot here). The hole in the OBC is too small for the connector, so you will have to feed a cut end cable thru the OBC and attach (solder/crimp) the lug onto the cable end after. There are several posting on how to do this. I had to do it also, as my cart only came with the 3 4G cables I mention above. Interestingly, I did not seem to have any problems with the 6G cables that were on it before and I am not sure I can tell any more performance with the 4G wires. However, there are several postings warning of fire and other hazards associated with too small cables, so I wanted to make sure I was being safe.

Did not answer your last question. It will do 22-23 MPH and will pull the wheels barely with noone on back. With at least one adult on the rear seat, it will pop a 1.5 ft wheelie! That was on throttle on rate of 8. Had to back it down to 5 - seems to be less touchy, and less likely to scrape the rear foot pad!

Thanks for the detailed info, as this was exactly what I was looking for!
Looks like the wires were your biggest headache, besides getting a different motor than what you expected.

I saw on this site that someone makes custom wires and leaves the lug off, so the cable will pass through the OBC. (if anyone knows him, please reply with the info)

What did a soleniod set you back? I forgot about that.

Im running the Plum Quick executioner motor on a precedent with 2 gauge cables, torque is good but its not going to pop wheelies. Top speed on level ground is 38 mph, 40 to 41 on a slight down hill 35 to 36 back up that same hill. No problems so far and yes you can get the 2 guage cable through the obc with a little lube.
