You know, I thought about that too. Only, I didn't think about it until after I mounted it inside the speaker tube and sealed everything up - duh! :) I'll just have to take it apart and look on the amp and see what it's rated for. It's just so small, I assumed something that small couldn't handle 15V for long.

Update to my issue:

Based on the advice I got from here, I followed my head/tail lights harness back to the batteries and found this "fuse block" as the source of power to the head lights. The larger red cable is going directly to the positive on my "number 1" battery and the fuse block is getting 15V at each slot. So, I gave up on trying to find 12V and wired my amp into the available slot shown in the pic and my set up seems to be operating fine. My question is, is this thing just as simple as it appears to be - just a cheap fuse block that is getting power from the number one battery and dispersing it among the four available fuse slots; nothing more, nothing less? I would guess this is not the "proper" way to power the lights?

With no voltage reducer (48 to 12v), all power going thru the fuse block is coming from one battery which will result in that battery draining faster than the rest of the pack . . . in time, it will fail quicker than the rest . . .

If your getting 15 volts it must be running off two batteries.

Well, the way I see it, your NOT getting 15 volts out of one 8v battery. it has to be hooked up to two batteries, now you say you got 15 volts at the fuse block off of two 8v batteries, that means that you have a battery problem, or a dead pack, or some bad batteries, because you should be getting about 16 and a half volts to 17/18 volts at the fuse block, so you need to do some more checking, How old are these batteries???

Oops . . my bad . . . 15v results from connecting fuse block to the second battery in the "pack chain" and should be actually reading about 17/18v at full charge . . . thanks jdc and rib33024 for catching that . . .

All 6 of my 8v batteries are "series" together, pos/neg, pos/neg and so on. The primary positive coming from this fuse block is going to the positive post on one single battery, which particular/number battery in that "pack" would be a guess on my part. It's the battery closest to the "driver's front". The best I can describe it is - two batteries on the driver side that are end to end, two batteries in the middle that are side to side and two batteries on the passenger side that are end to end. Having said all of that, I don't dispute I probably have a bad battery somewhere. I haven't had the cart long and the previous ownwer replaced batteries here and there, so they vary in age. However, the pack voltage seems to be fine based on the charts I've seen on this site - 50.2 or so. I had two batteries read 8.4, two read 8.3 and one read 8.5 individually after a full charge.

MAIN negative terminal is battery #6 (driver's side, rear) . . . MAIN positive terminal is battery #1 (passenger side, rear) . . . if main feed from fuse block is going to driver's front battery (battery #5), you should be getting at least 16v as power from battery #5 is added to battery #6 in the "series" connection . . .
