All chargers are designed to overcharge. This is necessary because we charge our batteries in series. Since the batteries are never the same, if you don't over charge them they will get more and more unbalanced resulting in damage to the undercharged one. By overcharging we keep them more balanced but we boil the ones that have lower capacity.

which is why you should always have a matched set of batteries.....I know there are times that circumstances make you have to "MAKE DO" which what you have, but you should try your best to match a replacement with the same AH rating and age to get the most bang for your buck.
