what's a good cable 36v ez go
Going to build new cables for my 36v ez go. How many feet do you think is there? I roughly measured 30 feet. Is that too much? What kind 4 gauge with a lot of strands. Or is there better.

Welding lead wire works great! The mite strands the better. Not sure how much, but I would think 30 feet would be as plenty.

The heavier the better. Stranded gives better contact points as well as flexible. Not sure on feet but, add a few feet to your figuring to make sure you have enough length between points.

Re: what's a good cable 36v ez go
I ordered 30 feet when I did my 36v PDS. I had a lot left over. I didn't make cables for the two that go to the motor. But it still looks like 30 feet would have been plenty. 4 AWG 364 strand.

The answer will vary based on what cart you have. The PDS and DCS carts require less cable than the series.
36V Series cart cables 4 x 48" 3 x 24" 1 x 9" 1 x 12" 4 x 6" 36V PDS cart 2 x 48" 1 x 36" 1 x 28" 1 x 12" 1 x 9" 4 x 6" |

Re: what's a good cable 36v ez go
A series drive has 13 cables (or 14 if the controller has an A2 terminal) and a sepex drive has 10 cables, so how much is needed depends on which type drive your cart has, but 25' is plenty for either. However, 30' will give you a margin of error in case building high current cables isn't something you've done before.
Stock controller, use 4Ga minimum. 400A controller, use 4Ga for standard duty and 2Ga for heavy duty. 400A controller, use 2Ga for standard duty and 1/0Ga for heavy duty. High strand count for flexibility. The cart frame flexes and the batteries move around some no matter how well secured they are, so the more flexible the cables, the less mechanical stress on the battery terminals and other terminals. Acid proof jacket. |

The basic description of the 4AWG I use from the maker
VERY HIGH FLEXIBILITY CABLE THAT IS MADE IN THE USA, +105C-50C 600V CONDUCTOR STRANDING IS 7X56/30 =392 STRANDS OF BARE COPPER. WELDING CABLE DOES HAVE A MYLAR COVER THAT LAYS BETWEEN THE JACKET AND THE COPPER TO PREVENT THE COPPER FROM STICKING TO THE JACKET DUE TO HEAT. NOMINAL O.D IS 0.32 AND NOMINAL WALL THICKNESS IS 0.06 , WELDING CABLE HAS A WEIGHT OF 11 LBS 100' feet |
