Default 36v with 42v charger

Western Cart came to the shop with shuddering & barely moving.
Just off the charger.

1 yr old batts, Check pack volts, 39.5v,
checked,cleaned F/R Sw, batts terminals
Acted same

Talked to the owner, when he bought the batt, someone told him the only reason for the 7th battery was for speed, it's normally a 36 volt cart. So 6 new batteries would work (& Save money). He put in 6 batts.
But
No one told him he'd need to get a 36v charger.
He'd been charging them with a 42v charger.

Load tested batts, 4 went from 6.2 to 3.2. 2 went to 4.2.

Will Cycling the batt with a 36v charger a few times help?

Are th batts "Fried"

Hopefully this guy has a warranty on the batteries. Maybe he can get them replaced?
If not that was a expensive mistake.

Why should the manufacture pay for new batteries? The user destroyed them so he could save $100

Lol! I agree! & customers hate it when you tell them to read the part of the warranty about abuse & neglect. Some will try to tell me they Didn't abuse those batteries with every single cell low on fluid.

What kills me is shortly after a storm, Home Depot has piles of returned chain saws. That means when I buy things there, I'm paying for all the abusive returns.

Small minded thinking says that because a company (especially a big company) is taking the hit nobody pays. Everything trickles down. If HD pays to liquidate hundreds or thousands of tools annually the cost is reflected in the cost of all products or they go out of business.

I have bought factory reconditioned tools at roughly half the price of new. Allows me to buy a top of the line tool that I use infrequently whereas I couldn't justify the cost of buying it new. Plus they usually come with the first couple of scratches included. I don't feel so bad when I add a couple of my own.

Non power tools and electronics, that are returned are often just taped up in the original box and sold at full price. I usually buy those, as many folks don't want them. As long as it has all the parts and is in undamaged shape, I'm fine.

One time my wife bought an iron, only to find an old dead one in the box. The one good opened package I bought was a $20 pizza pan set. When we got home, it had a $20 bill inside. Returned gift.
