You would just put a mark on the visible shaft/magnet and count the rotations without having to remove the motor.

You can check the for sale section and post an ad to buy stock gears for folks that have upgraded their gears.

If You remove the gears first, this post has the information on how to calculate the ratio based on the number of teeth on the different gears (so You can sell yours):

Awesome. My though process here is to check to see if it's 1-6 or 1-8. If it's 1-6 i may consider picking up a 1-8 over stock.

That could be an expensive experiment unless you are prepared for drive system upgrades... Consider the stock controller and motor are rated for nothing more than a 15% incline. With any gearing increase some upgrade will be needed

Good morning folks,

Just talked to my local shop. He instructed me to upgrade the current controller using www.flightsystems.com over changing out the gears. Anyone have any experience with them?

He also said he would charge $150 to swap the gears and would buy back the high speed gears. I could get this swap done for almost free and not have to do the work myself which is pretty neat.

I am interested to see if anyone has used flightsystems.

Thank you,
Sam

Unless you are trying to save money in the short term by purchasing an old "repaired" controller from FSIP, I would strongly recommend buying a new modern Alltrax controller.

Will a controller make that dramatic of a difference in bottom end power?

While there will be some torque increase, I don't believe you will see the results you are looking for with most likely 6:1 gears installed.

Further, FSIP sells multiple makes of controllers. Did they say which they thought you should use? This will result in upgrading the solenoid and possibly cables (hard to tell the cable size from the pics)

Where are you located?

Central florida. I'm not opposed to a gear swap. I believe i can get the swap done in one day for around $50 (leaving him the 6-1's). However, if it was as easy and plug n play i'd much rather take that option.

Here are 10 plus reasons to choose Alltrax XCT over ANY other controller including FSIP and Curtis.

Alltrax and Curtis are pretty much the standard go to controllers here on BGW. Most prefer the Alltrax (myself included) since you don’t need to buy the separate programmer like the Curtis.

An XCT and stock gears will probably get you to the 25mph your looking for and still have decent torque out of the stock motor.
