re: How Many Amps
They will put out about 500 amps. Yes, the 700 amp controllers are overkill, but they provide a margain of safety if you have a 11-14 HP motor installed. Most of the inrush is controlled so a spike will not be observed. I have tested a 14 hp motor with a 700 amp controller and for about 50 milliseconds, the amperage is above 560. .010 second later, it has fallen to below 500 amps. Wiring was 2-AWG. Motor was connected to a dead load dyno like they use to test outboard engines. Setup was a tektronix scope measuring across a .01 ohm nickel-chrome shunt.

re: How Many Amps
Higher amp controllers carry higher amperage for a longer period of time

Re: How Many Amps
Although it is only 50 amps between the 500 and 650 amp alltrax on the 5 min rating and none on the 1 hour rating. Thats not very much.

Re: How Many Amps
K, I recently got an axe 4865. Haven't had a chance to install it yet but can't wait. The 500a seems to be the perfect controller but i will primarily use mine off-road i got the 650 because I figure under pulling conditions the 650 would handle it better and possibly run cooler.

Re: How Many Amps
I think the only time you are gonna need to go any bigger than 500 amps is when you are running 8, 6 volt batteries. Adding batteries is where you will get bigger amps from.
