steering not going all the way
Just purchased this cart and the steering does not work. With it up on jack stands and the front end off of it, the wheels will turn all the way to the right. Turning back to the left, the wheels only travel to mid point( or straight ) position. The steering wheel then spins freely. Looking at it, it seems that the steering gear box may be broke, i don't understand why though.
Also, on the steering gear box, the passenger side is connected to a rod that is then connected to a tie rod. The drivers side has nothing connected to it. Is there something missing or is this the way it is? If something is missing, that would explain to me why the wheels only travel back to the straight position and turn to the left. that for the inight 1998 Club Car DS 36v electric, standard golf course type model |

Re: steering not going all the way
Sounds like the rack gear is stripped. Check with the sponsors or in the used parts section. There is only one link coming out of the rack & pinion. The driver side is connected to pasenger side with a drag link.
Hope this helps. Good Luck... |

Re: steering not going all the way
thanks for the responses. I took the front end apart tonight and took pictures to show what i found. Don't know if i can upload them or not. I found the the gear box ball joint w/stud was bent and in turn, shifted the (you guys call) the drag link. Also bent is the mounting plate that the steering gear box attaches to.
I tried straightening the gear box stud which is pretty straight, slight angle, and i'm taking the mounting plate which also holds the top mount of the shocks to work tomorrow and try to straighte that too. Another question though, if you purchase a lift kit, would this plate come with it? thanks Jim |

Re: steering not going all the way
jj, the only lift I'm aware of that will replace the shock/rack tower is the long travels. You can replace a whole bunch of o.e parts verses the cost of a LT lift.
