Uncommon key switch for 1990 DS
I'm looking for an uncommon key switch to use on my gas 1990 DS. The only key switch I've found for a 1990 is one that works on 1983.5 - 1995 models, but it is common (so anyone with a key can drive off with my cart). I found an uncommon key switch that is for 1996 - 2002 models.
Both key switches have 4 places for wires to connect to the back. Has anyone tried or does anyone know if the uncommon key switch for a 96 DS cart will work on a 90 DS cart? Or is there another option available that someone has used successfully? I've attached pics of the back of both key switches. The key switch with screws to connect the wires to, is the one for 1983.5 - 1995. Thank you, Steve |

Look at 2 pole generic automotive key switches. They are keyed unique. Costs about 10-15.00

Unfortunately... Gas Club Car key switches are designed in such a way that you have to re-wire stuff to get a cheap 3 position switch to work!
sstory... The key switch wiring hasn't changed on CC gassers for years, the 96+ uncommon switch WILL work! I'd expect that the 96+ key switch will come with screws in the terminals, at least mine did! (all else fails... change them to spade connectors) Make sure to disconnect the battery before the install, or sparks may fly! Click pic to enlarge: pedalstartkeyswitch.jpg |

Thanks for the responses.
Lockman, do you have a link for the key switch you used that had the screws in the terminals? I guess I could add flag connectors to the wires if the key switch has that type of terminal. And thanks for the heads-up about disconnecting the battery. I had also thought about that as well. That's a live wire coming to the switch. |

Re: Uncommon key switch for 1990 DS
I bought mine from my CC dealer... it's an actual CC switch, so I can't really say how the aftermarkets are set up!
Note: the pic I posted earlier? it's close... but your cart doesn't have as many wires, this should help... (same terminals as the above pic) |

Thanks Don, I'll contact my local CC dealer and see what he has or what he can get.
