Cart dies and then goes again
Looking for help with a problem. The cart will go for 20-30 min and then dies. If you press the brake all the way to park and then hit the gas it will go again. It may go for another 20 min or it may only go for 5 but it you push the brake in and then hit the gas off it goes. I took it to the shop and they said I had bad brushes in the motor causing it to overheat but that doesn’t explain it starting back up immediately. AND it’s still doing it after the repair. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Re: Cart dies and then goes again
He stated "brushes in the motor" and I can be fairly sure it's an electric motor.
If your shop repaired it......then why is it still doing this? They have the equipment (or should) to DX the problem and recommend the right fix. |

Re: Cart dies and then goes again
The guy got mad when I questioned him about the repair. They just did the work and called me with a bill without an estimate. When I asked him to explain why it would continue to run within 10-15 seconds of cutting off if it was overheating (he said the motor was hot to the touch). His tone changed and he said he was just going to drop it off at my house no charge and said Merry Christmas. i told him I would certainly pay for the work done and he declined. Of course, it’s still doing the exact same thing and the motor is not hot to the touch. I’m still thinking it’s a short somewhere. I emailed the shop to let them know that I still have the same problem but got no reply and don’t plan on taking it back there anyway.

Re: Cart dies and then goes again
I agree with these guys. It sounds like the controller is getting to thermal cutback. Each time it turns off and back on it resets. So it could just be resetting and working again. If this is the case you will find it goes into the cut off easier and easier as time goes on.
Sounds like the cart is ready for an upgraded control. |

Re: Cart dies and then goes again
If the controller is going into thermal shutdown, isn't that from the motor drawing a lot of amps...or more amps than what is "usually" required to do the work?
If it's the motor drawing too many amps, is there a way to check this with a Multimeter? If it were an Alltrax controller it could be hooked up to a laptop to obtain data......but I don't know if an MM could be hooked up and just read the screen to see the amps being drawn. |

Re: Cart dies and then goes again
Doesn't sound like anything is overheating since the procedure described allows the cart to work again right away without cooling.
Is this a stock Lithium setup or did someone add a lithium pack to this cart? Did the shop even had any diagnostic tools to get an error code from the Controller? |

Re: Cart dies and then goes again
I think I posted in the wrong spot. It has normal golf cart batteries. Its an older ezgo. I don’t know if the shop tested the controller or not (I doubt it). He just said they drove it around for a while and the motor was hot so they cracked it open and found some brushes were bad. It never cut off for them. The motor isn’t hot to the touch when it cuts off so overheating doesn’t sound like the problem but I’m no golf cart guru. I keep thinking there is a loose wire. When you engage the parking brake it kinda jolts the cart a little when it locks. Maybe that’s enough to make the connection again?????

Re: Cart dies and then goes again
I guess that’s possible but it’s had large tires on it for 2 years with no issue.
