Default Ezgo marathon controller upgrade/replacement

I'm about to replace the speed controller in my 92 marathon. I want to go with the curtis 500 amp. Will this work ok with the stock motor for now ? I upgraded the cables when I replaced the batteries 2 years ago.

Yes, the stock motor ought to be fine, but you'd probably be better off installing an Alltrax SR48500 controller. They're user programmable.

So how do you program the alltrax ? Do you have to buy a programmer for it ?

No. Software is free from the Alltrax web site. You need a windows laptop and a USB printer cable. Since this is a series cart, you can get the Alltrax SR controller form here: https://www.cartsunlimited.net/ and it will come already programed. You won't need to mess with it unless you want to. Options are limited with series carts unlike the sepex carts.

Ok, thanks ! Y'all have been really helpful. I think I know what I need to do with this cart. But I'm throwing more money at it than it's worth.

Tim....before you buy it.....send Carts Unlimited an email (the owners name is Scotty, and he's a member here) tell him a little about your cart, as in how you use it, on road, off road, is it hilly where you are or is it flat, what size cables your cart has on it. looking at the picture of your cart, tell him the size tires you hove on it. tell him that you are looking at the SR48500 controller. he has a number of kits that will set you up correctly.
