Before Bob's tune it would run 22-24 with just the dealer unlock sometimes called "freedom" on those tires. These carts will run ~20 mph with the freedom unlock on standard stock 18" tall tires so the speed difference is all in the size of the tires.

Bob's tune resulted in 32 mph measured by GPS (more than one and they agree). That is on level pavement with just me on the cart. I have seen 36 mph on a slight downhill and I believe it would go faster at that location but I haven't pushed it and don't intend to. My experience is typical based on reports from others over the last year or two.

This cart was built to order on a 2012 chassis but everything but the chassis was brand new in 2016 including Trojan 8v batteries and all new 4ga cabling. I haven't changed to 2ga cables yet but I intend to sometime. I haven't had any issues with heat yet but in the environment the cart operates in the normal average speed is in the 12-15 mph range with only bursts into the 20s and above 25 is rare. I do punch it on occasion though and have surprised a few people in autos. I like to have this capability but actually isn't necessary for my use and can be dangerous.

Thank you. Do you have any info on where I could source the same size tires? I’ve found a few places online so if not, no worries. You’re running that size tire without a lift, correct?

Also, I did have the Freedom mode unlock at the local dealership and would run 21-22 mph before I had Bob tune my controller. I am getting faster top end after his tune, it’s just a far cry from 30+ mph. My Trojan batteries are just about the same age and I too used gps app to measure speed. Thank you for the info. I’m not really wanting to fly around at 30+ mph all the time either. I usually just cruise between 8-10 mph bc I have a little guy with me most times. Just not sure why there should be such a difference in the top end speeds. My cart is a a 2014 and has newer batteries like 2016 or 2017.

The difference is you bought a golf cart (13mph originally), it was then upgraded to PTV speeds, (19mph with stock size 18" tires, faster due to your larger tires), some equipment was required for that, but still not "50-state legal".

A "2-five" is a different animal, it's a "25mph stock" LSV, it has a "DOT approved" glass windshield, federal dot-aprroved headlights, turn signals, brake lights, emergency flashers, mirror, horn, seat belts, dot-approved roll cage, 4 wheel hydraulic brakes, all required reflectors, and a windshield wiper (plus a few other things I might have forgotten).

ANSI (the group that sets the guidelines) has sets of guidelines of what each type of vehicle is, and its required equipment. "Golf cart" is 12-14 mph, and basically little safety equipment is required. "PTV" is 19mph, and requires reflectors, mirror, headlights, tail lights, brake lights & horn (still not officially "street legal). "LSV" requires all that "ptv stuff", plus the things I listed for the 2-five "LSV" (and whatever else your local governing group may add to that list) for "street legal". It can legally go 25mph, and no more than that. Even with all this, you are still restricted to roads with 35mph or less speed limits (while your going no faster than 25mph).

To 'legally" go faster than 25mph on the streets would put you in the category of a "real car", requiring airbags, side impact beams, crumple zones, IIHS crash tests, ect.

This is all stuff to keep the original manufacturer out of "wrongful death" lawsuits for selling an "unsafe vehicle", and the manufacturers are strict about it (their lawyers demand this).

It's not as simple as "why cant I just go as fast as I want", there have been too many big lawsuits.

Hello Bob Boyce,
You sound like the guy we in Virginia Beach need to have visit us, or us meet you with our carts.
Several of us are new owners of 2Fives and need them tweaked. How do we get on your next travel itinerary?

As I just joined this, I can't PM Bob, so if anyone can forward this, so he can see it, it is much appreciated.

Andy

Bob,
Any chance you are near the Atlanta area. I can trailer my 2Five to you. Would love to have you reprogram my controller. Also what typically causes a 2FRive to go into creep mode (3mph). My cart just did this.

Thanks
Hans

As I'm hoping (like a kid on Christmas) to get a reprogram by Bob on one of his future trips, what might I expect from my stock 2019 2Five with 215/40/12 tires (18.8" diameter)?

In an earlier post in this thread, Bob stated a 28% torque increase and greater speed. Any 2Five owners out there with some top speed numbers that were achieved via Bob's magic? I've read a number of figures for RXV's (27-28mph with stock tires and 30-32mph with 20.5" tires).

Despite different gearing between a 2Five and an RXV, are these same numbers attainable for a 2Five with one of Bob's reprograms? If so, I may go with the 20.5" tire.

I’ve had mine up to 33mph via waze app with stock tires.

We leave ours at the lake and the only thing I’ve noticed is after pulling the hills to come back home the extra horsepower must get the batteries war, enough you can’t charge immediately you have to let them cool for 5-10 minutes, but I’d still do it again.
