Can I put a 48 volt motor in place of a 36 volt?
Sorry im just getting into this world I have a 1987 club car ds, works fine. Its the one where no real computer just uses the solenoids for speed.
Can I replace the old motor with a 48 or does it truly take a ton more to get it to work? I am a newbie, i found a used 48 volt in perfect condition through someone upgrading so was curious if its worth my time. |

Noooooo. That will degrade performance severely.

You need to do it the other way...upgrade the batteries to 48v first.

Re: Can I put a 48 volt motor in place of a 36 volt?
ok so safe to say I can stick with the solenoids, but I can just swap the motor once I get brand new 48v batteries? That doesnt sound too crazy, i think ill buy it off this guy and just when its time to upgrade batteries I can do the swap.
I mean if I need other stuff I can def do it, but would be nice if I just need to replace batteries and the motor and get a nice speed pickup. I dont need a race kart, but would be nice to hit a solid 18 to 20 mph. I currently max at 15 and shes an old cart so not terrible. |

you want to run the 36 volt motor on 48 volts to go faster....this can melt things but it will roll for sure....
and you could just add 2 more 6 volt batteries to get to 48.... |

oh I thought a 48 volt motor would give you more speed assuming I have the right batteries.

Re: Can I put a 48 volt motor in place of a 36 volt?
As stated, upgrade the electrics and use the stock motor as long as you can. When time comes to upgrade it, you won't WANT to use the stock CC motor...you'll end up getting a Plum Quick or D&D or something anyway. ScottyB can tell/sell you what you need to start the speed upgrade process, but decide your ultimate goal FIRST. Nothing like buying a supercharger for a small block chevy when you're ultimately gonna do big block.
