Burned it up!
Burned up.
Hey, I just towed my 2006 48v club car precident about 1 mile behind a car and it smells like melting varnish. I just realized it had a tow switch (which I didn’t use) Did I burn up the board or the motor? Or both? Lol Oops |

Re: Burned it up!
Maybe both the motor and the controller. Given them both the sniff test. If they smell burnt they are toast.

Re: Burned it up!
The smell is a red flag! You at least killed the motor by over spinning it. Probably got the controller, too. So sorry about your expensive lesson. It's an easy mistake to make.
You need to take it to the shop to be tested to be sure of the extent of the damage. If you were to replace only the controller and the motor is bad it will damage the new controller. Hope this helps you. |

What is the speed that you towed the cart at? If you exceeded the maximum rotational speed of the motor, you may have grenaded the motor |

Re: Burned it up!
Both, possibly.
On any stock Sepex motor system the controller tries to brake the motor to prevent roll-away. Forcing the motor to turn (towing) means the controller throws more amps at it to try to keep it from turning. This usually will pretty quickly melt the armature of the motor, and once the armature shorts out it will take out the controller as well. Motor is toast for sure. Good chance the controller is toast as well, but the only way to find out for sure is to replace the motor and see what it will do. Good time to upgrade both! The other big question remaining: Why did it have to be towed? |

Re: Burned it up!
Sorry for not responding. Two of the batteries died leaving me stranded. I towed the cart back to the house about 1/2 mile at around 15mph. When I got home I noticed that electrical burning smell. The cart still works, but I can still smell the burning after a short drive. I’m guessing the motor is melting lol
I learned a lesson I guess! |

Re: Burned it up!
Sucks indeed ! Since you need so many new parts might be a good time to look into the Lithium Upgrade, it will be an expensive hit but may pay off over time

Re: Burned it up!
Before you spend any money take a look at the components and see if there is any signs of melting. I had friend do this once and it only took out the solenoid. He was very lucky
