How freely should the drive clutch turn by hand on ez go txt 2001?

Are you trying to determine if the cart has good compression?, should turn fairly easy until a certain point in the revolution then get pretty tough for a second then get easy again, this is the compression stroke...if clutch is easy to turn a full revolution could mean bad compression...not always but frequently.

Thats exactly what its doing. Engine makes a noise right after the difficult part also. That narrows it down to the starter. Also, is there an easy way to remove the pulley nut on the starter, having trouble getting the pulley to hold still for me.

are you using an impact...this is very hard to do with hand tools...
