And you want a little more oomph.

Replace the 3x12V battery pack with 6x6V and you'll get more run-time, meaning it won't slow down as much on hills and not as soon.

The higher the Amp-Hour capacity of the batteries, the longer the run-time.

To get more speed and torque, you can increase the voltage of the battery pack.

Going from 36V to 48V is common and is best done with 8 x6V batteries.
6x8V is also 48V and while the run-time is less than 8x6V, it is about the same as it would be with a 6x6V 36V system.

I'm sort of splitting the difference and going with a 7x6V (42V) system using high capacity batteries, but my goal is run-time and both speed and torque are incidental.

Here is a Cut&Paste on that subject I wrote earlier today:

Using Trojan T-105 batteries as the standard and at an average discharge rate of 75A, you'll get the following decreases and increases in run time using the following Trojan batteries. (Decreases are highlighted in red)

6V:
T-605 (210AH) -8.7%
T-105 (225AH) Standard
T-125 (240AH) +14.8%
T-145 (260AH) +26.1%

12V:
T-1260 (140AH) -47.8%
T-1275 (150AH) -39.1%

Also, something not previously mentioned in this thread, being of less capacity, the 12V batteries will be discharged further with each use, so the resultant average State of Charge will be lower. Therefore their lifespan will be shorter.

For longer run-time and life-span, use larger capacity batteries.

The fact you've got Marine batteries rather than Golf Cart batteries, may make matters even worse.
