Cables would be a good start... and the guys above gave sound advice... heat is caused by resistance.. and resistance is caused by lack of ability to load...

Interesting development. As I was breaking down everything I realized the cables on the batteries were 6 ga and the rest were 4 ga. Hoping that 2 ga welding wire will help. Also, any advice on a speed upgrade?

The F/R lever is by the drivers right knee and I don't see a Run/Tow switch on the controller cover, so you probably have a series wound motor.
The cart is lifted and the tires look to be taller than stock, so you are already running faster than stock.

If you are running a stock controller, the taller tires are likely to take it out in the foreseeable future, so plan on upgrading to an aftermarket controller that can take the load the tall tires put on it.

Ways to get more speed out a a series cart: (In random order)
a. Higher battery pack voltage.
b. Taller tires.
c. Numerically lower differential ratio. (Faster gears)
d. High speed motor.
(Bothe b. & c. change final drive ratio.)

Of course rest of drive system has to match whatever you do.
