Time for batteries in RXV
I figured I would check on here and see what peoples' opinions are. My lifted cart's batteries don't have the life they use to so I figure it is time to replace. It still has the stock 4 12volt Trojan batteries. Should I stick with Trojan? My local dealer wants me to get Interstate batteries thru him and claims they are just as good. Should I look at switching to 6 or 8 volt batteries depending on what will fit. I don't want to heavily modify but if I could get a significant more amount of ride time I would consider. Also while I am doing all this I plan on adding a single battery to power accessories instead of isolating a single battery. Thanks for any advice.

Re: Time for batteries in RXV
Will the TXT battery box allow for 8 6 volt batteries? I know it should be an improvement in overall ride time but does anyone know roughly how much longer? If it is just slightly better I will save money and just find the best batteries I can get. I know when I bought the cart I rode it for 24 miles before the batteries faded. sorry for sounding so complicated. This is the first time I have to buy batteries and I want to do it right. Thanks for the input.

Re: Time for batteries in RXV
According to my local dealer's wholesale distributor, there has been an increase in warranty replacements on Interstate GC batteries since they've started building them in Mexico, so I opted for something made in USA even though they cost more.
For a 48V battery pack, you've got four options: 8X6V, 6X8V and 4X12V. (Listed in greatest run-time to least run-time order.) Run-time depends on how many Kilo-Watt Hours are stored in the battery pack. Here is a list of Trojan batteries and the number of kWh in 48V packs made up of those batteries. As you see, the kWh of a 48V battery pack consisting of eight T-145 6V batteries is nearly double of a 48V pack mode up of T-1260 12V batteries. Of course, where to put 8 batteries is an issue, so the next best option is six 8V batteries, which will fit under the seat if the battery rack is changed. |

Quote:
Mathematically, if you originally had T-1260 batteries, going to a T-890 (Premium grade 8V), you would see about a 36% increase in run-time. If the originals were T-1275 batteries, it would be about 27%. In actual operation, you would most likely do a bit better than that since in general, 8V batteries has a higher AH rating than 12V batteries, so you wouldn't be working them as hard. In addition, by not working them as hard, the projected lifespan is also longer. |

Re: Time for batteries in RXV
FWIW: A local dealer here is selling FACTORY refurbished 09 RXVs equipped with 6x8v batteries. So these carts have been converted to 6x8s instead of 4x12s. I didn't study one to see exactly how it was done but you might want to look into this before you make a final decision.

Re: Time for batteries in RXV
I prefer the US battery 12V over the trojans. they seem to be lasting longer than the trojans.
trojan makes the best 6v battery out there, but when it comes to the 8v or 12v they are not number 1. |
