2003 DS Series Speed Issue
Hey guys, this is my first post here, so please forgive any stupid mistakes.
I just bought a 2003 Club Car DS 48V Series (AA03) with a Plum Quick Bandit motor, and what appears to be the stock controller - I think it is a Curtis 1204/1205. I currently only get about 15 mph out of it with standard size tires. My first test was the batteries, which seem to work fine under load. The next step was to test the MCOR. When testing the resistance at the controller, I saw 8500 ohms at the top end, down to about 1300 ohms at the bottom. If this is a stock Curits controller, should it not be in the 5k-0 ohm range from top to bottom, and if so, is there a way to fix this? I am a bit confused on this because others have said 6500-1100 is acceptable. My uncertainty on the controller is because somehow, all of the labeling has been removed. Not to make this post longer, but I am quite sure it is not the Bandit. All of Plum Quicks products I have seen in the past are top notch, and this one shows no signs of having problems either. Thanks in advance for all of your help. |

Ok. I misread your post.
What are your battery readings at rest and under load? |

Re: 2003 DS Series Speed Issue
Battery was not at a 100% full charge when these readings were taken, but it was close. I had a mile or two on them already.
At stop: 50.3 v Under initial acceleration from stop: 45.1 At speed (no incline): 46.8 |

Stupid mistake #1. Sorry about that. It is back on the charger. I will get those readings by tomorrow. Thanks for taking interest.

Re: 2003 DS Series Speed Issue
Its really important to measure/test each battery's voltage separately (especially under load, like climbing a hill). Sometimes a weak battery can "hide" within a 48v pack - especially if its brothers and sisters in the pack are very healthy and willing to contribute their maximum voltage on demand.
BUT if you connect to, and monitor each battery separately - any bad ones will stick-out-like-a-sore-thumb! |

Re: 2003 DS Series Speed Issue
Too much food, and way too much drink delayed my testing a little. Below are the test results. I live in an area with no hills, so I tested the batteries under the load of acceleration from a stop.
Battery Charged (v) Under Load (v) 1 8.53 7.32 2 8.47 7.29 3 8.61 7.55 4 8.45 7.32 5 8.49 7.45 6 8.47 7.60 Thanks again guys. |
