JohnnieB, Thanks for posting that Total Charge III & IV owner/repair manual. I just acquired an old discarded TCIII charger to troubleshoot, so info. will come in handy at this time. Hoping the transformer is not "toast". RAY

Here is some more stuff that is handy for checking out the transformer and capacitor in ferroresonant transformer type chargers.
The µF value of the capacitor is determined by the core design of the transformer, so replace it with the same value if the voltage boost isn't right.
A motor "Run" capacitor with the correct µF will work.

Capacitors are the most overlooked cause of trouble in power supplies. If you don't find anything else try replacing it. If you can get ahold of another capacitor you might just try it before troubleshooting. It sounds to me just like a partially open capacitor.

The part number is in the service manual I posted.
However a 1N1184 or similar diode rectifier, will work.
