Melex 212 Batteries/Charger
I've recently bough a Melex model 212 and this can really be an amazing cart! The only down side is I'm on a very low budget and without doing any research, I'm finding out that the cost of 6 6 volt batteries isn't very cheap like I had hoped. I just re-did the seats, and made a new brake cable, but I still don't know if this cart will actually run. Besides the batteries I need a charger, I don't have the kind of cash to buy the actual charger thats made for the cart but after some research, I've found a Stanley battery charger thats meant for 36 volt golf carts. It's $120, and cheaper than the original charger. I'm just unsure if I'm way to over in the amount of money I'll need to get this thing running but I want to see it happen. Donations would help! "Wink Wink", haha I'm only kidding but I just need some advice on where to get the cheapest batteries and charger! Thanks Everyone!

Re: Melex 212 Batteries/Charger
As to batteries, local is really your only option. Shipping heavy lead and acid filled boxes is not cost effective. Call around and consider driving a bit, if it can save you some money. Buy the highest amp-hour battery you can afford. May hurt a little today, but it will last longer.
Go here and read up on batteries: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/How_Batteries_Work.html http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Batter...n_Methods.html http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Batter..._Tutorial.html I found this: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/melex/ Do you know if the cart actually works? Being on a budget, it would stink to spend $500 - $700 + charger, only to find it needs a new controller and/or motor. Look in Craigs List, eBay, and here for a used charger: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/golf-carts-parts/ http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/golf-...arts-ebay.html Don't buy a cheap "electronic" charger. When - not if - they die, they are not repairable. Look for a "coil and core" (heavy transformer inside) charger. They generally last forever, and are generally cost effective to repair. Like batteries, shipping costs can be quite high, so local may be your best bet. Buggy shops may have used ones that were traded in. |
