2001 EZGO TXT - Poor Steering
Hi,
I have a cart that I am trying to breath new life into.. the steering is very sloppy (lots of play to either side). What would you guys recommend I replace first to try and get the steering back to normal? Does anyone make steering rebuild kits? |

Re: 2001 EZGO TXT - Poor Steering
I just replaced the rack only, not the pinion gear, cleaned it up real nice. There should be several posts re: this over the years. The rack was noticeably worn.

Re: 2001 EZGO TXT - Poor Steering
Kurt,
2001 is a "transition" year for steering components... look at where the steering column goes thru the floor,,,, its the bolt pattern a "triangle" with 3 bolts (2001 and below..old style) or a "square" with 4 bolts ?? (2001.5 and up..new style) First, lets see which style you have, it makes a difference in just about everything in the front end. Report back what you find, plenty of helpful advice will follow! |

Re: 2001 EZGO TXT - Poor Steering
What trouble shooting did you do to determine rack was bad?
Could be as simple as loose wheel bearing or toe adjustment causeing problem. Randonly replaceing parts will eventually fix problem but may be a bit costly. Not trying to sound harsh, just trying to help😊 |

Re: 2001 EZGO TXT - Poor Steering
after you determine the type, search EZGO Rack on Golf cart king for this:
https://www.golfcartking.com/ezgo-19...steering-rack/ Mine was a 97 so there was no question I needed this one. I just determined I needed the rack only due to searching this forum for steering issues, also had a lot of play in the wheel. some replace both the rack and pinion but most don't. I didn't and it's fine!! Kind of messy, need to repack the boot with grease. Also searching the forum gave me step by step instructions, can't remember was so long ago. Good Luck! |

Re: 2001 EZGO TXT - Poor Steering
I would put the front end in the air, take off the tires and inspect it, make sure everything is tight. both style of racks for the 2001 are expensive, especially the older of the of two(the three bolt steering column).
