Solenoid question
I have a bad solenoid on a cart. It is a 48v 200amp solenoid. The controller is 1268-5403 400amp controller. Can I use any 48volt solenoid that is at least 200amp? Can I use a larger solenoid? 250 or 300amp? I need to get one ordered asap so I am just looking for an answer. The cart is a generic cart HDK/Evolution. It is not my cart, it is my buddy's but I am helping him. The cart was working but the solenoid was very messed up. It is a 6 seater and I felt like 200 amp was too small really but I will order whatever. I came here because the ezgo threads are very good with knowledge on the controllers/solenoids.

Re: Solenoid question
Sorry for posting in the ezgo section but I feel more electrical folks browse and post here. This should be a fairly simple answer but I want to not burn up his controller. I am certain a solenoid is a solenoid with few exceptions as long as it is a continuous duty application.

Re: Solenoid question
What solenoid are you running right now? Most "200a solenoids" have more than one rating. Most "200a solenoids" have an intermittent rating & a continuous rating. Typical would be 600a intermittent & 200a continuous. Which means it should be suitable for controllers up to about 500a (always use a "step larger" for longer part life). A smart engineer will go bigger for longer life, a "bean counter" will go smaller to save a few pennies.

Re: Solenoid question
CG,
I actually don't know. It is Chinese. It only stays 48 V 200 amp unfortunately. Unless you know Chinese. I appreciate your help. |

Re: Solenoid question
There must be a number on that thing somewhere? If not a single number on the label, consider it suspect as possibly "super cheapo".

Re: Solenoid question
It probably is. I am thinking to order a 48v 400amp solenoid for testing purposes. Does it matter which solenoid? I think they all perform basically the exact same function if they are continuous duty (not starter)

Re: Solenoid question
As long as it's the matching voltage & its rated for "continuous duty" (not starter solenoid), it'll likely be fine. Most solenoids are matched to battery pack voltage. (Ezgo rxv is an exception to that, it used a 36v solenoid on a 48v system for many years).

Re: Solenoid question
Thank you CG you are the man. I will order a bigger solenoid with 48V.
