Thanks Scotty B you never know when one might upgrade the motor so 2 gauge is probably the way to go.

Will the controller work with an upgraded motor?

Thanks

Listening to all the stock controller talk on here, I was scared to death my 23" tires would kill mine in less than than 6 months. I have put over 300 miles on mine in the last year and it is still kicking. If most of your driving will be off-road, tall tires are hard on the controller but they seem to do fine on the street.

Freedom mode with 23" tires will get you 22-23 mph. I have 2 ga cables and see a max of 23 and 11-14 mph on long hills. I plan to run the stock controller until it gives up then upgrade to a 400 or 500 Alltrax.

720 good advice thanks. I will be mostly street use. Can you tell me more about this freedom mode? I have heard it called tuning the motor and I see people selling what looks like some kind of plug in. Can you explain what I need to do?

Thanks

The stock controller is sort of programmable. They use "personality plugs" to select modes. There are a lot of threads on here that explain it in great detail, but basically it is just a plug with wires jumping various pins to select the various modes. Freedom mode is the fastest (about 18 mph on stock tires), but it has no regenerative braking when you let off the pedal. You can find the personality plugs on ebay and such for around $10 each.
