Charging with solar panels??
I just acquired what I think is an 87 3 wheeler EZ Go (36 volts). Batteries are shot, and will replace tomorrow. Assuming this cart works, it will be at a remote cabin in the Texas Hill Country. Electric is on the property, but not nearby where it will be stored, and we get out there no more than once a month. I'm thinking of getting either (3) 12 volt solar chargers, (6) 6 volt solar chargers, connecting the batteries accordingly for the charger. Has anyone had any experience charging carts this way, and if I do this, would I have to disconnect each battery, then tie (2) together for 12 volt solar panels, or separate each one for the 6 volt solar panels?
Thanks!! |

Re: Charging with solar panels??
I have not heard of anyone doing this. You should not have to disconnect or seperate any batteries to do this, I would try the low amp 12v chargers. Be certain there is plenty of water in them before you leave it for a month ? Maybe you can experiment and monitor it at home for a week or 2 before walking away from it for a month or more? Let us know how this works !

Re: Charging with solar panels??
One 123 watt solar panel would take about a week or so in direct sunlight to charge a set of batteries. I haven't done this thats just what the math says.
Check out the MX60. Its a solar charge controller....a little pricey but it will charge up to 60VDC. |

Re: Charging with solar panels??
That's what I was wondering, that maybe the danger here is overcharging?
