Default Can some tell me what rearend this is??

OH

I have a 1988 Marathon. I bought brake shoes for a 88 marathon. The new shoes don't fit the rear end I have. I guess someone had changed it out. Soooo does anybody know what this is and what I need for brake shoes?

The left one is the old one. It had no numbers on it. The right is the new one. #4424

After doing some more research, I found out what I have. Someone changed out a 76-81 marathon rear end. Oh well, as long as it works.

Yea, I kinda set myself up for it.

I was just pi$$ed off last night as I have waited for these things for a week. Then they turn out to be wrong because I don't know what the **** I'm doing and someone "helped" me out and set me back. It is clogging up the driveway. Whine, whine ,whine.

I will keep working on the body and paint and get everything else done. Who needs wheels?

Whoa!
Sorry you took that wrong. I meant as I have no brake shoes and the drums are off, my cart can't be rolled out of the way. But there is enough to do that it shouldn't be a problem.

"Who needs wheels?" actually I DO! With offset rims too.

FWIW and for future reference, <USUALLY> the brake shoes have a letter and number stamped on them. e.g. J10, that will help order the right replacements.

Thanks for the info, but these were in pretty bad shape. I could find a mark to save my life.

I don't think those are from a 76-81 marathon. The brakes in your picture are self adjusters. I think 1988 was the first year for self adjustment. The keyed shaft though.....hmmm not sure what you got there.

EDIT..... I just pulled up an old picture of a 1977 brake and yes it looks like the one in your picture. I couldn't see the keyed shaft in the picture but the backing plate and related brake parts looked identical. Good job on your research. I learned a little more about the history of E-Z-GO
