Default 1997 resistor/diode circuit board orientation

I am helping friend repair his 1997 EZGO Freedom. I replaced the defective solenoid, and the cart seems to work fine. However, I have no wiring diagram for this cart, and I am confused about the orientation of the little circuit board with one resistor and two diodes which is mounted across the big solenoid terminals. When not connected to anything, the circuit board's resistance from one metal strap to the other is around 240 Ohms regardless of the direction of the meter leads. Is this OK? I am clueless regarding the purpose of this circuit board other than to perhaps minimize arcing within the solenoid and preserve its internal contacts. Also, I connected the circuit board with the diodes towards the batteries (center of cart) and the resistor is therefore toward the passenger's right. This is how it was oriented when I removed it to mount the new solenoid. Is this correct?
There is one more interesting observation. I had disconnected the positive leads from the battery nearest the passenger side (+36 Volt point) before replacing the solenoid. When the run/tow switch is in the run position and the key is off, there is a pretty good spark when I touch the removed leads to the battery. I put the switch in the tow position and reattached the leads since there was no spark in the tow position. Then, I put the switch to the run position, and the cart seems to work fine. I am just worried something may not be correct, though.
Thanks for the great forum. I own a 2000 Club Car, and I am pleased to be a part of your group.

Welcome to the forum Bruce.

Download a service manual for that cart. Everything you need and more will be in there.

Thanks for the reply, Roady 89. However, I have looked at all the manuals to which there are links, and each is either 2001 and later, or 2003 and later. Nothing is 1997 and resembles what I have attached to my solenoid. Are any other manuals available?
