Re: Proper RPM for Harley Gasser
Whole heartedly agree. How do my numbers sound on the gaps? I have had similar issues on some cars I restored but there was ballist resistors in line that were at issue.
I will replace points, why not? Any idea the numbers on them in case auto zone has them? But is it possible the points could go in one direction? Have also replaced coil, plug and condenser. |

Re: Proper RPM for Harley Gasser
Set points at .022 max. Not at TDC.

Re: Proper RPM for Harley Gasser
Set the points for max opening to .22 to .25 Just turn the engine until you reach max point opening!

Re: Proper RPM for Harley Gasser
saen i had a issue with mine for the logest time not starting, found out i di as i thought and set points a tdc... well it wasnt happening, so i out of a whem set my points at the flywheel dot for fwd and verified same in reverse and vroom! sounds stupid i still dont understand but it works. tony worked with me and had me fdreaming of timing and points for about a week. i just couldnt uderstansdd then 1 day. bam! hit me like a bag of poo! the points have to be open to spark, and i was thinking they should be closed to sprk. keep that in mind too!

Re: Proper RPM for Harley Gasser
I am going to try this today, I hope. But just so I am crystal clear. I set a point gap of .022 when the flywheel is at the dot for Frwd and not the hash line for TDC. Then confirm or set the same gap of .022 at the reverse dot on the flywheel.

Re: Proper RPM for Harley Gasser
thats basicly what i did. youll be surprised, but i know if its wrong, they will let me and you know. but with my timing light and placing the marks on the starter pulley, they were pretty much on, had to adjust the timing some, but not that bad to turn the plate.

Re: Proper RPM for Harley Gasser
That just seems so wrong and unatural. ;) Nothing ventured nothing gained. So, the gap at TDC isnt a factor on the 2 stroke? Sorry, I just cant wrap my head around that.
