Looking to Bring my ole baby back
Hey Guys, I am new to the Forum but have been cruising your site for a while looking for info and I am impressed with the vast amount of information on here.
I have a 95 electric TXT or Medalist (my cart has the metal body), I consider this cart my first Car. My parents bought it new and there is no telling how many hours I have on it. It has never had the self braking motor, it would fly, easily the fastest in the neighborhood back in the day. Fast forward, this cart has been sitting relatively unused for years now. In its current state the batteries are shot. I am looking to do a complete (as much as the budget will allow) over haul. I am wanting advice on what components I should get. What I am wanting is a Tailgating wagon. I am not a small guy, 6-4 285lbs I have 3 kids and a wife. So here is what I think I want. I am open to suggestions. 4'' lift and A/T Tires - I need just enough lift to climb curbs and be light off road capable. Convert to 48v Need torque to haul my self and other good sized guys in hilly terrain (I live in upstate SC and Tailgate in Clemson), but would also like to have some top end speed 18+ mph. Tire chirp with just me would be super awesome if possible. Upgrade head lights to LED, maybe add lightbar. Onboard decent radio and speakers Rear seat with flip down bed. Needs to be well built for big dudes/heavy coolers. I am a complete newbie when it comes to DIY golf cart mechanic work, so if anybody is close and reasonably priced for labor rates I'd entertain using their services. I can't be the first guy looking for this exact info, but with the vast postings on this forum its tough to consolidate the information. So links to previous discussions with my questions would be much appreciated if yall don't want to type what has already been stated. Thanks again, I look forward to being active on this forum. |

18+ mph, 5 people, "tire chirpin'", thats a lot (& the urgent-care bills). No cart is gonna haul 5 and gonna spin tire while doing it without some serious cash. The lift & big tires are one obstacle (lost torque, plus stability with 5 onboard). Suspension upgrades (stock leaf springs re-used during lift kit install) are not nearly ready for the desires you have. Good brakes? This will require you to honestly weigh your desires, and spend some good change to make it reasonably safe and bulletproof (no one wants to help push your cart back). You didnt really tell much about the current system (except that it wins races), what is stock, what is upgraded, post some pics?

A Chirp riding solo would be nice but that's the least of my desires. Just looking for a good range. Currently using a brand new ezgo L6 with 23x10x14 on it and this thing is weak. No torque, gotta get a rolling start to load on my trailer. I want the one I'm looking to redo to blow the L6 outta the water.

Im at a ezgo dealer, but we sell very few of the new TXT style carts (is the "L6" a stretch model?). Most all lift kits dont include any upgrade to the cart suspension system, only a lift in height. The stock springs are typically reused (like a "block lift" on a truck). The stock springs are not ready for the HD job, they were designed for golfing. If you were ok with no huge speed increase, but better torque, the cost "could" be lower. Its always a trade for more torque or more speed, if you require both the cost goes up. Have you been reading up on the possibility of a upgrade to 48v, and its associated costs? What cart are you planning to build (yours could be one of two types), is yours "series" or "sepex"?

Absolutely want to upgrade to 48v. Not sure what I'll need. Considering all the components on the cart are 20years old. I'm already planning on getting the EZGO HD suspension. Right now I'm just trying to get some rough cost figures put together. I believe the cart already has a upgraded motor without the speed retarding on it. I'd be curious to see what it would do with just the voltage upgrade.

What type is your cart, "series", or "sepex"? This is very important to know. The upgrade path is different for each system.

From what I can best tell it is Series. How do I definitively answer that question? The F-N-R is the old lever style below the seat.

When I search ezgo by serial number it tells me it is a 1995 TXT DCS 36v. Does that help?

It does, but to be sure, does it have a big aluminum "bell" on the back of the f&r handle, or a rod to the passenger side with a big rotary switch? These are under the seat.

The DCS would be cheaper to upgrade and would give more of the speed you are after. Dcs carts have a run/maintenance switch on the black controller cover.
We have DCX 400 Alltrax control and HD 20a Solenoid on sale for $479. This would give a 35% increase in torque and speeds of 20mph. |
