Spark plug gap? / Starting issue
It has been running great for months. It sat maybe 2 weeks. Went to take it for a ride a couple of nights ago and it turns over but won't fire up. I checked and cleaned the plug and put a shot of starting fluid in the carb and it starts right up but once the fluid burned up it stops running and just the battery is turning it over. There are 2 fuses that the previous owner showed me to check and they are good. Going today to buy new plug. A (NGK R BPR6ES) Is this right and what is the gap? Any other suggestions? or things to check. Thanks!

Re: Spark plug gap? / Starting issue
Think you have a fuel delivery problem.
And I believe the plug is a: BR4ES but I don't think you need one yet. |

Re: Spark plug gap? / Starting issue
Are you talking about the fuel pump? Do you know of a way to check it?

Pull the line off the top of the pump (or carb), the one that goes to the carb. Fuel should shoot out when you turn it over mine shoots around a foot. If it does then clean the carb.

Re: Spark plug gap? / Starting issue
good advice sho! as long as there's gas in the tank and the filter isn't plugged its prob a pumb/carb issue. electrical parts don't go bad from sitting for 2 weeks, fuel can.

Re: Spark plug gap? / Starting issue
After I got done lifting and all that on my cart, I know once I cleaned and lubed the clutches and cleaned the carb good...I had few problems just grease the clutches once in a while and keep good gas in it, plug every 2 years, not much else but filters and belts when needed. Have to remember these carts have a lot of years on them and that stuff never gets done. You do it once when you get it and its good for a while unless you let it sit or run in mud/etc...but then you know you did that and it might need to be cleaned or whatever so you do that and see if it runs right again.
Took one of those fuel filters out, man that is a big filter in there. It then leaked, turns out the new filter had no gasket!? Don't recall where it came from. Use the BPR2ES plug for newer carts it works better and lasts longer. I never set them, just put them in unless the box was crushed or something. I checked them for years and they were always right so I gave up lol. Since the old one looks good yet (just dirty) if the new one looks the same in it goes. After 2 years I usually have to start cleaning the plug so I replace then, unless I don't run it much that year. I only use the NGK plugs in mine. |

Re: Spark plug gap? / Starting issue
Cool thanks! I will pull the fuel line when I get home.
What NGK plug should I use BPR2ES or BR4ES or does it not really matter. I don't know how old the plug is. It was there when I bought it. |
