Slow forward - really slow reverse - 91 DS
I finally got a chance to get back to work on my project. It's a 91 DS that's lifted and has 20" tires on it. It has the resistors, one solenoid and the VGlide. I realize this will never set any speed records but I can't afford to switch it to a controller.
It runs about as fast as my resistor EZGO Marathon going forward but moves very slowly in reverse - torque is fair but the speed is 2 mph (maybe). I know that generally the amount of power is cut when reverse is engaged but this seems excessively slow. Where do I start to look to speed up reverse and what can I do to make sure everything is functioning properly and it is living up to it's limited potential in both forward and reverse? Thanks for all your help. |

Re: Slow forward - really slow reverse - 91 DS
CC reverse is half speed, using 18V, or half the battery pack. The circuit comes from the #4 battery (#1 battery is the front passenger battery for 36V, #4 battery is driver middle for 18V). You should see a 6ga cable going from the #4 battery positive to the FnR. If you want full speed reverse, move cable from #4 battery to the #1 Battery positive for 36V, or #3 battery for 24V reverse.
On a side note, if reverse is extremely slow and not half speed, you may be experiencing a battery issue with batteries #4, #5 or #6. Check voltages to be sure on all batteries. Check for clean tight cable connections all around, even at motor and FnR. you might verify the wiring is correct using the "sticky" above for wiring diagrams, 88-03 DS Electric Last edited by scotter; 07-29-2014 at 07:52 PM.. Re: Slow forward - really slow reverse - 91 DS
Scotter,
Thanks for the input. I've got the battery pack out and am trying to use the battery conditioner on a charger I have to see if that will do anything to raise the pack voltage. Once I do this and charge the batteries individually I'll put them back in an see what the factory charger will get them to (currently they max out - after 12 hours off charge - at 37.5 - 37.7V). I'll do load tests on them individually before re-installing and make sure they are wired per the diagrams. Paul |

Re: Slow forward - really slow reverse - 91 DS
They should peak at 44-46v. Sounds like the batteries can't take a charge any more. Hence the slow operation

Re: Slow forward - really slow reverse - 91 DS
scottyb--
Thanks for your help. I'm going to work on the batteries to see what the best they will do. They currently are at 37.5 to 37.7V. On the soc chart that shows to be 80-85% after 12 hours off the charger. I'm not that familiar with Club Car but on the resistor EZGO Marathon they came from, the cart moves pretty well going forward about half speed in reverse (which I think should be about right). Is the Club Car with the 20" tires going to be affected that much more than the EZGO and why would reverse be affected so much more. Will the battery pack voltage affect the run time, speed or both? Thanks again, Paul |

Both & 91 CC has 1/2 power reverse.

Re: Slow forward - really slow reverse - 91 DS
I just recently bought a 91 cc and mine is running faster in reverse then it is in forward. I am new to the cart world and trying to learn. I replaced all the wires and charged and load tested the batteries individually. What is try the next troubleshooting I should be doing.
Thanks in advance Mike |

Re: Slow forward - really slow reverse - 91 DS
Mike you may want to start your own thread. I'm wondering if the cables are connected to the correct places. People have been known to get the reverse and forward cables hooked to the wrong places. That would a good place to start.

Re: Slow forward - really slow reverse - 91 DS
Thank You, I will start a new thread. I did have my Red and Green wires switched from the F&R. Now, I have no power in Reverse. Thanks for the info.
