New headlights for 86 Marathon
Quick question...
Will the new 18W headlights I just bought work OK (i.e., not overload the electrical) on my 86 EZGO Marathon (that I use as the base for my art car for the Burning Man festival)? If not, is there any easy way to make them work? The current/original headlights didn't really provide enough light to see very well at night last year so I bought a pair of 4" 18W 6 CREE LED SUV Off-road Boat Headlight Spot Driving Fog Lights (
Amazon.com: 2x 4" 18W 6 CREE LED SUV Off-road Boat Headlight Spot Driving Fog Light + Mounting Bracket: Automotive
).If you're interested, you can see a picture of the art car here (I've also tried to attach one to this post): https://plus.google.com/+SethSchulte...55272312110891 Also, just FYI, I just replaced the old engine with a two-stroke from an 89 Yamaha cart (not sure which model). Definitely seems to be in better shape than the old one so far... Thanks, Shugs |

I wish I would have known about those lights before I bought my Harbor Freight set. I saw in the reviews that they only draw 1.1 amps.

Hi Cart Around,
So, does that mean I'm OK using these? I'm not very electrically inclined/knowledgeable, but from your post it sounds like that's not much of a draw... Thanks! -Shugs |

http://www.powerstream.com/Amps-Watts.htm
The ones I use are 55 watts, and draw 4.5 amps each from my 87 EZGO. I don't have any complaints about them, but those LEDs would have been a lot nicer. http://www.harborfreight.com/clear-l...hts-37349.html What are you using to power the rest of your dragon? |

Re: New headlights for 86 Marathon
The programmable, colored LED strips, 600W speaker/PAs, the laser and the the video projector are all powered off of a Honda eu2000i generator that I strap to a welded plate in the front (i.e., under the dragon's neck/in front of the driver).
The "normal" cart stuff (starter, head/tail lights) are powered from the cart battery/alternator/normal electrical system... Is that what you were asking? |

Yes, that is what I was asking. Those lights won't be a problem.
I have always been fascinated with Burning Man, but live way too far away. |

Re: New headlights for 86 Marathon
I ran a 180w Rigid LED Light Bar on my Marathon and all was well - You should be fine with those small lights :)
