2008 Precedent quick brake question
Working on a friend's stock, 2008 Precedent, electric.
When he would brake he would hear a "scrunching" sound coming from the area of the brakes. No squealing or grinding, etc. Brakes operate normally. I found that when I slid the brake lever by hand with nothing connected ( brake cable disconnected ) I would get the sound. The lever I am talking about is the one that goes through the rubber dust shield on the brake. The sound seemed to be coming from the rubber dust shield. I removed the shields and the squishing sound is gone under normal braking. The rubber shields seem to be in good shape. Very pliable. Here's the question(s). With the cart stopped when I press very hard on the brake I get the same sound. The harder I press, the louder the squishing sound. Can someone out there with the same kind of cart tell me if there cart does the same thing? Second thing. It was really tough to get one of the rubber shields off. It seemed to be stuck to the brake back plate. It is virtually impossible to get them back on. I'll be buying new ones and see if that helps. |

Re: 2008 Precedent quick brake question
The wheel's backplate holds the combination adjuster/slider mechanism. If the brake shoes are a bit worn and the slider/adjuster mechanism gets stuck (no longer slides) the rear shoe can be stretched quite far to contact the drum (while the front shoe doesn't move at all because the slider is stuck).
My DS (with fairly worn shoes) had a stuck slider on the driver side and made a sound that could be described as kind-of creaking/squishing. |

Re: 2008 Precedent quick brake question
I can add a little bit now. The sliders were free. I took off the dust covers and have ordered new ones. The squishing sound is gone.
As I mentioned when the cart was not moving and I pressed the brake pedal very hard I would get the squishy/creaky sound. I went to a dealer to get pick up some dust covers and saw a couple of new cart setting there. I pushed the brake hard on them and got exactly the same noise. I did the same thing to an EZ-GO and there was total silence. I don't know if EZ-GO has hydraulic brakes, but there certainly wasn't any noise at all. |
