Replace shaft 2001 DS rear axle

Is it possible to replace the shaft in a DS electric rear end?
I have an '01 parts cart sitting here and the shaft is broken. The rear end spins freely. I'm thinking that I'm going to have a stock controller when I upgrade to the Alltrax.....
Might just have to build thins frame into a cart.
