Default New 91 DS

Hello, this is my first post here but have frequent.

I purchased a 1991 Club Car. it sat unused for 5 years but is in great shape. It needed batteries so i replaced those.

My issue is that going up a hill it is super slow. It makes it everytime but is slow to do so. The V-glide looks brand new.

What else can I check/replace to give this old guy a little more pep?

Thanks

You could start with a controller and cable upgrade and see what that does it for you. If still not enough you can do a motor. Check out some of the site sponsors websites for packages and pick the one that suits you.

Looking at the cables they look to be 4 gauge already.

I also bought a batteries gauge off of Amazon. I'm pretty smart but I can't get the thing to work.

That should be a simple install unless the gauge is bad. Be sure the gauge is for your voltage. I.e 36v or 48v (usually stamped on the back), then be sure the (+) indicator on the back is ran to your main Positive on the pack and your other wire is ran to the last negative which would be the last battery and running towards the back of the cart.

If it is hooked up correctly then it can only be a bad gauge as you are coming directly off the pack. (It can also be switched for the power supply if you prefer that, I just like mine on all the time to monitor voltage as it is a very insignificant amount of draw.)

I thought it was simple...

I connected the + of the gauge to the + battery start of the run
I connected the - of the gauge to the - battery end of the run
I connected the C of the gauge to the + battery and then I got sparks and it burned the + wire of my gauge.

Also the front is really bouncy. Is it just the leaf spring needing replacement?

C ? not sure what that is...

Battery Guage should just be the 1st 2 connections you did.

What does the wiring diagram show or the instructions ?

Do you have a link for a better one?

Take a digital volt meter and probe the main (+) and the last (-), which should be where you hooked up your leads going to the gauge and verify the voltage. You should see ~36 to ~38 volts. If you do then the gauge must be grounded out internally on the "C" side. All I can think of...... (I've never had one with the "C")

This is the battery meter I use and strongly recommend. It is sold by one of the site sponsors
