Default Bypassing A2 blade on curtis controller

I've seen this addressed but always when swapping a 4 post controller to 3 post. I have a 1989 36 volt marathon that I installed a Curtis controller on to get rid of the toaster oven parts. It's a 4 post controller with the A2 post. It's worked fairly well for a couple years but lately I'm getting too much heat and melting the battery post connections. I am going to upgrade to 2 Gauge wiring. My question is, do I need to connect post A2 on the controller as I never use the plug braking feature. The reason for the question is the wire kit (14 wires) using A2 costs about $25 more and if I'm not going to plug brake and can just use the 13 wire kit bypassing A2 it's saves a bit. Also, do I have to upgrade the FNR switch to heavy duty with the 2 gauge wires or am I okay? It's a stock motor. Thoughts?
