Re: Wire Gauge?
By the fact that you ask the question, you would be better off with Scotty's wires, they are soldered and sealed. That takes several tools and skills so unless you are looking to spend the time and money for the materials, tools and learning mistakes, a pre-made set is best. The wire is not cheap for the correct stuff.

Re: Wire Gauge?
When thinking of wires for your cart.
Think of a water hose that is 1" flowing non stop water compared to a 1/4" hose flowing water. You most likely want see a differance in a stock cart with the bigger cables unless the cables you replaced had problems to begin with. As stated though if you ever upgrade then that one less thing you have to buy. |

You guys are right in your observations. The battery cabling is the Highway system for the amperage delivery to the motor. The motor eats amps and the more amperage it can access the stronger it runs. Simply put AMPS equal Torque. Volts equal Speed. So top notch cables of the proper size will help your cart accelerate faster and pull hills better. |

Re: Wire Gauge?
I just purchased 2 guage welding wire from Amazon last night since I'm upgrading my controller, I got 15' of black wire and 15' of red wire for 46 dollars I think. With the wire and 20 lug connectors 10 came with the wires so 30 all together and two day shipping it was only 86 bucks.

Re: Wire Gauge?
For anyone building their own cables or buying a set online that is considering upgrading later to one of the Heavy Duty Solenoids, consider the size of the ring connectors. I had bought a set of 2 gauge cables online before I was smart enough to ask for advice. The posts on the new Solenoid that I bought from Scotty are huge and were too big for my cables. For now, I drilled them out to make them fit, but I am afraid that will expose them to corroding.
Next time around, I will go to Scotty to make sure that everything matches. Edit: I just realized that this is a 6 year old thread. Maybe it will help somebody anyway. |

Re: Wire Gauge?
Yes this was an old thread but I am glad you found some use out of it. The useful information on wiring has not changed.
