Good deal? I'm new to this help please
I have a campsite on the Ohio river and we have decided a golf cart would be a nice addition. We are on a budget and looking for a deal. I found this 2002 electric golf cart for sale locally. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the description from seller 2002 club car golf cart. Jakes lift kit with 23" tall tires. Has 3 new 12v deep cycle batteries with new 2gauge battery cables. Has a top with a cd player installed in it. Has lights on the front. The cart runs great and is in great shape. Would be great at the campground or race track. Comes with the factory automatic club car charger. He will sell it to me for $1800 what do you guys think? Pics below |

Re: Good deal? I'm new to this help please
The 12 volt batteries are going to be a problem with regards to run time and will require replacement in no time.
New 6 volt batteries (proper golf cart batteries) are going to cost you between 400.00 and 800.00 depending on how you choose to go. The 12's are not meant for this type of duty and will run down quickly, and their effective life will be diminished rapidly. Because of the batteries, I think this cart is a little over priced. |

However...that is in my opinion a very good price based on my local market even with a new bat purchase looming ahead. If that cart were for sale around here, it would easily bring 3K as is, likely more. I don't know what the market is up there, but if you are asking me, I would say jump on it. Maybe more folks from your neck of the woods can chime in, but that's my .02 worth. |

Re: Good deal? I'm new to this help please
Thanks for the replys, this is the exact information that I was looking for. I didn't even realize that about the batteries. The seller told me he is a golf cart mechanic so I assumed the batteries were the right kind. So would having these batteries hurt the cart in any way? Make it slower or less powerfull? Or is the only con that they would drain faster? My whole camp is the size of a football field would these drain in a matter of hours or are we talking minutes? Thanks for the input guys!

Re: Good deal? I'm new to this help please
Based on my limited experience it would just drain faster. As already stated, they will also wear out and need replacement sooner. If the batts are good and strong I would say hours not minutes, but it might be only be two hours... the older carts were designed for 6 batteries and are not efficient enough to use just three. Especially in off road conditions.
Even though he is a "golf cart mechanic" he may not have built this car up with three 12Vs, but he may have. In either case he should know it isn't correct and if he doesn't, I would wonder about that..... I still say it is a decent deal even if you need to buy batteries now, but this is based on my market here where he could get 1800.00 for it in a heartbeat as is. |

Re: Good deal? I'm new to this help please
the 1st thing your gonna need to do is get rid of the 3 12 volt deep cycles............you need six volt golfcart batteries...........you can run it with those but they arn,t right they won,t last much more than a year and your runtime is gonna be crap........your not gonna be happy but more important than just that is its a red flag for me......if he were a golfcart mechanic then he should know the batteries are the very last place to cut corners so where else did he cut corners...................in all honesty you might want to pass on it and be truthful and tell him why oh forgot is it a good deal?? no not with those batteries sorry...........................

Re: Good deal? I'm new to this help please
Yea I would definitely need rear seats but I could do without the windshield. Most of the carts around here are around 2k bone stock and 3-6 modified. He was originally asking 2200 and I talked him down a bit. I don't mind buying it knowing that I will need batteries eventually as long as these batteries won't hurt the cart and I'm still getting a good deal. I'm getting mixed responses here but I do know that the wheels and lift kit that it already as is definitely somthing I want on my cart. I would paint it also and call it a day. It also already has a stereo which is a plus. Decisions decisions. I'm gonna ask the seller about the batteries.

Also this is the only cart in my area that's already lifted with wheels that is anywhere near what my wife has allowed me to spend.
