Crazy Arsed Idea
Could folks use a 36 volt system with a common neg or pos for 48 volt charging?
Should work, I'd think. 12 volt accessory battery in series. Only makes sense if you're upgrading from 36 to 48 without paying for the controller. |

Re: Crazy Arsed Idea
I would worry that the accessory battery
would be out of balance and you may over charge your drive pack. |

Re: Crazy Arsed Idea
Yeah, thought about that after posting. Only makes sense if you're going from 6 6 volts to 8 6 volts, and even then, they would be unbalanced.

Re: Crazy Arsed Idea
When charging (or discharging) cells in series, they all have to have the same AH capacity, or bad things happen, often reducing the useable lifespan of all cells in the series string.
It next to impossible to find different voltage FLA batteries (different number of 2V cells in the same box) having cells with the same AH ratings. The AH capacity of a cell decreases as it ages, so mixing new and old batteries of the same voltage and AH ratings, also causes series charging and discharging anomalies that reduce useable lifespan. |
